Trend Report for 2012!
Fashion never stops moving, and it’s been clear since Fashion Week 2011 that 2012 was going to be a year for change.
Perhaps the most noticeable shift so far is the shift from bold blocks of color to pastels and prints. The year 2011 was big for things like red jeans, yellow jackets, bright blue dresses—all paired with nude shoes. Bright lips and eyeshadow palettes made statements all over runways. Colored lace was revered in high fashion (and revered even more once Kate Middleton appeared on the scene). But this year, like Lady Gaga hinted, colors like mint are going to be very big this spring.
Design companies like Marc Jacobs, Versace and Louis Vuitton sent their models to runways in dresses and pants in stunning colors like nude, pale yellow, lavender, and light mint.
Along with lace, satin, and abstract art-inspired designs, animal prints—specifically bird and swan prints—also made their appearances on runways in the shows of Marc Jacobs and Kenzo.
Some things, however, are carrying over into the new year. Embellishments are getting more and more elaborate, detailing is becoming more and more important, and trends from earlier years (such as the drop-waist) are coming back into fashion.
These are just some things to watch for.
I’m excited!
